Castello Merlo is a fabulous, luxury castle on the Tuscany / Umbria border, that dates as far back as the 12th century.  This historic eight bedroom property has been fully restored and has commanding views over the Tiber valley. It stood as a ruin for many years before it was bought and restored in the mid-eighties and completed in 2012. It is set in 5 hectares of grounds and the accommodation is 2,000 square metres. It has been lovingly restored to a high standard to provide luxury level, holiday accommodation.
Castello Merlo is the perfect spot to explore both Tuscany and Umbria. Assisi the home of Saint Francis is 40km, Gubbio 47km, but the border with Tuscany is close by, so you can explore beautiful Lake Trasimeno or head over to some of the most well renowned wine towns such as Montepulciano and Montalcino. Or just explore the fabulous city of Perugua with its great shopping, beautiful cathedral and hidden underground city.

It features a living room, dining room, professional kitchen, 15 x 6.5 mt swimming pool (heated on request), a fitness centre, two outdoor terraces with breath taking views, a BBQ area and space for dining and relaxing. The castle also comes with professional staff, who provide an excellent service. Castello Merlo features fireplaces in each room, velvet curtains, renaissance tapestries, frescoes, art work, high quality furniture all combined with all modern comforts that create a unique atmosphere for the more discerning guest.

BEDROOMS

Each of the eight bedrooms has a completely unique style, design and colour. Luxurious fabrics and soft linen are used for the super king sized beds. Comfortable sofas, panoramic views and fine artworks will make you want to spend all your time indoors to enjoy the medieval setting of the castle.
All 8 bedrooms and suites have private en suite luxury bathrooms. All of the bathrooms are spacious and elegant (one has a jacuzzi). Marble showers, heated stone floors and thick towels make every bathroom experience a pleasure.

OUTDOORS

The castle features many beautiful terraces around the property that are furnished for relaxing. Outside, two outdoor terraces offer stunning views and are available for dining or relaxing. One of the terraces is equipped with a wood oven/barbecue for those summer evenings, dining underneath the stars. The private pool (15 x 6.5mt and heated on request) is set amogst the olive tress and enjoys fabulous views. The pool terrace is equipped with double loungers and has the wonderful  scent of lavendar and immortelle in season. That together with the breathtaking panoramas makes for a heady expereince.
The commanding position of the castle means that wherever you are, the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Tiber valley can be appreciated. The cities of Assisi and Perugia can be seen from the front terrace, while near the swimming pool Monte Tezio and Monte Acuto dominate the panorama. Whether relaxing by the pool, or enjoying a morning coffee overlooking the Tiber Valley, the life of the castle is in harmony with the surrounding countryside.
